Bladron - Oceania
Player: Lord Xanthor
Shard: Pacific
Interview By: Kehleyr

IanStorm - How long have you been playing UO?
Lord Xanthor - Little over 5 years. Since a little before Beta ended.
My first shard was BetaTest before I went over to Pacific.

IanStorm - Where are you from in Real Life?
Lord Xanthor - I'm from NY, USA

IanStorm - What sort of occupation/study are you involved in, outside the game?
Lord Xanthor - Electronics Technician. Whether from scanners to electronics in smart batteries that go into missiles.

IanStorm - What do you enjoy most about the game?
Lord Xanthor - The friends I met. A lot are from all over the country or all over the world. In game all racial hates are not present, at least with all my friends. Wish it could be like this in the real world =)

IanStorm - How would you best describe your main character?
Lord Xanthor - My main character has had many changes since I first made him. Didn't have the heart to delete him, and settled for working the skills longer. Unlike my other characters, he's non macroed and took years to develop. Hes a great tamer, and businessman in game.
I came up with the name years ago, used it in the old Ultima games, it is a mixture of two things. One from a book series called Xanth, and the god Thor. Since magic is involved, and hes a strong character, I merged the two.

IanStorm - What sort of skills does your main character possess?
Lord Xanthor - GM Taming, GM lore, GM Magery, GM EI, GM Meditation, 92 resist, and 94.3 Vet. The last two skills hard to GM, and I refuse to macro him.

IanStorm - What sort of activities do you take part in, ingame?
Lord Xanthor - Trading, hunting in dungeons like Destard or Ilshenar. Helping with the guild, or malls I'm involved with. One of the biggest activities at the moment are the plants. I was growing a little over 2300 at all times in two large towers. People were calling me insane, but heck, it brought in a lot so I can't complain, except when I would start hearing birds chirping as the sun came up realizing as I was just finishing that I been up for 8 or more hours.

IanStorm - What do you like least about the game?
Lord Xanthor - I like many others definitely do not like the provocation changes. Sure some of the additions are nice, but all in all, it took me years to get even close to GM, and after the publish I was so disappointed as my Provoker was also my GM treasure hunter, that I stopped using him and stayed with my Tamer.
And I like the scamming in game even less. There's a difference between taking an item, and tricking someone out of their castle, who worked years to be able to obtain one. My first Tower took me 3 years to get.

IanStorm - Which facet do you call home - Trammel or Felucca?
Lord Xanthor - I have a Large tower in Trammel and in Felucca. I spend my business time in Trammel, and dungeon time in Fel, or at least use to until the changes lol. They use to be empty =)

IanStorm - What sort of home do you own, if any?
Lord Xanthor - Two large towers. Both used mainly to grow plants when I have the time.
Which city in UO, would you regard as your hometown?
Definitely Britain. Started there 5 years ago, always come back =)

IanStorm - What is your earliest memory of playing UO?
Lord Xanthor - Starting on Pacific I, even after 6 months, never bothered to test skills out, I just like wandering at the time. I wanted a magic mace (Had no clue back then of all the additions of ruin, might, force, power,or Vanquishing). So started yelling in town buying magic mace and met a character names Scott. Fast talker, filled my head with so much was way to much to absorb in 20 minutes. Anyway, he steered me in the right direction, and instead of a mace weapon got me into using swords which I gm'd 3 months later. He to me was rich back then, but not trying to boast, I ended up outdoing him a thousand fold. He got me into the trading and selling. Then one sad day, he told me he was leaving UO. Ended up selling me his account cheap, which I couldn't understand, because for his character, people would have paid a lot back then. I used that account to develop some very powerful characters - GM tamer, GM smith, GM minor, and a lot of others, which 3 years later got me doing lots of business.

IanStorm - Would you consider yourself a PvP, PvM or Role-Playing person?
Lord Xanthor - PVM. I use to PVP until people started getting faster systems them me and couldn't keep up, though I updated a few months ago, I haven't attempted PVP again as of yet.

IanStorm - What would be your ultimate goal in UO?
Lord Xanthor - Hmm, that would be if ever possible, work fo OSI as a GM. I can see them shuddering now just seeing this =)

IanStorm - What is your proudest moment during your time in UO?
Lord Xanthor - The day I moved out of my small house (Well I had 5 of them actually) and into my first Large tower. I stared at the immense space for days before I figured what I was going to put in it.
Actually think my first proud moment or close to it was making my first million. After killing orcs and only making 40k in two weeks, the business started booming and I was ecstatic =)

IanStorm - Anything else to add?
Lord Xanthor - I would hang out in #ultima-online on Stratics. I was one of the biggest flamers back then. I use to have a totally opposite attitude towards OSI back then. I was suprised when I was offered an Op position, then even more so when I was given the job on the Event team. Since then, I got to meet many of the dev team, and other representatives from OSI, and a few are close as family Id haev to say. There nothing liek what anyone says on the outside, their humane just like all of us. And yes Sannio and Oaks, your humane =P There all great people. Took me years to understand what they all go through. Reminds me of a story I read in school years ago.
A boy and an old man are going through a town, the man is sitting on the horse, and boy is leading the horse. All the towns folks are looking at this and stating what a mean old man, he making the child do all the work. So the man and boy switched places and went through the next part of town. This time the townsfolk stated that this boy is lazy, look at that poor old man, making him walk and pull the horse while hes up their being lazy. Well thsi time both got off and walked and the next response was by the town that look at these two dummies, they got a horse and neither of them is riding it. That's basically what's happening in my opinion, theres so many people with good idesa, and unfortunately, only a few can be brought out, but all in all, everyone I met from OSI are really good people =)
