Pick the plot size here. 18x18 to 256x256.

Here are some shortcut keys to help you out.

Here you can change the background color, or select one of many windows colors.

Or choose to tile the background. (But the background will not show in the image if you save it.)

If you hold the Shift Key, then Left and hold on the foundation, you can move it around.

Once you choose a tile, goto the foundation. Left click to place the tile. Right click on the tile to delete it.

All tiles are in the Toolbox area, just left click on one to choose it.

This image will appear in the bottom right. It shows you the floor you are on, tile you have choosen, and the Axis you are currently using.
