For demo purposes I think the whole game process was extensively accelerated, but it left me feeling naked and confused. There was not much connection or feeling for the main character “Dirt”, which made it kind of hard to care if she makes it or not. I think with the entire storyline backing her up, it is a much more interesting game and I suppose I would have a stronger connection with the character.

The game has twenty different traditional weapons to choose from, not to mention ten special offensive and defensive moves to pick from and use in different combinations. Along the characters adventure she can interact and save NPCs from the clutches of the mutated creatures, which will be rewarded with extra information and bonus abilities. “Origin of the Species” will also have a realistic physics engine that drives the entire world (their world, not ours!). Plus, you get to operate your very own rebellious New York punk girl! How can anything possibly go wrong? Well, except for the government testing and the giant mutant ants attacking the Earth that is…

The graphics are pretty decent overall. The cinematics are well done, but the content is supposed to be the more important part of the game anyhow, right? I think there are still some early development bugs and movement issues – like I couldn’t get up a staircase, find where to go next, and I was able to leave the area of an important dialogue sequence with an NPC but the voice and subtitles followed me away from the area. It probably would be best if the character froze in that area until the important talk stuff was fully completed. It is hard to put a final judge on the graphical qualities of a game so early on, so I will say it is off to a very good start and let us hope they blow us all away.

And about that emotive bear backpack, “Boo,” that is just so creepy! It is like Teddy Ruxpin is haunting me…
